Trinidad and Tobago to set up Vivekananda Foundation

vivekanandaPort of Spain, April 29 : The Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, where about 40 percent of its 1.3 million population is of Indian origin, will soon set up a Vivekananda Foundation in honour of the late Indian philosopher saint, whose 150th birth anniversary is being observed this year.

The idea is the brainchild of Indian High Commissioner Malay Mishra, and it is proposed to take shape by September.

Over 1500 students came together and created a new Guinness World Record.

The Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, had planned a series of programmes to commemorate the occasion, including a number of cultural programmes, essay writing competitions for college students will make presentations on Swami Vivekananda''s message to the youth.

Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary celebrated in Bengal

s/Swami-VivekanandaKolkata, Jan 12 : Cultural programmes, a tableau depicting his teachings and colourful processions marked the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda in West Bengal Saturday.

The celebrations started early in the morning at his ancestral house in the city's Shimla Street, where people from all walks of life assembled to pay homage. A colourful procession, taken out mostly by school children, wound its way through the city's streets.

Governor M. K. Narayanan paid floral tributes to Vivekananda while his predecessor Gopal Krishna Gandhi was present at the monk's ancestral house.

India celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda New Delhi, Jan 12 : To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Saturday, a number of functions are being held across the country.

President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the anniversary celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and release a set of commemorative coins and stamps.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi along with several Union Ministers will be present on the occasion.
