Delhi HC to hear money laundering case against Himachal CM

New Delhi [India], Nov. 4 : The Delhi High Court will on Friday hear a petition filed against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in connection with a disproportionate assets and money laundering case.

In October, a special court directed the Enforcement Directorate to supply certain documents to LIC agent Anand Chauhan, an accused charge sheeted in the case.

Special Judge Vinod Kumar directed the probe agency to hand over the documents which were filed along with the final report in the case.

In September, the Enforcement Directorate filed charge sheet against LIC agent Anand Chauhan in a money laundering case involving Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and others.

A Delhi court earlier on August 20 dismissed Chauhan's bail petition.

Jaitley accuses Himachal CM of being involved in three corruption cases

"In 2002, hydropower projects were allotted to a few companies in Himachal Pradesh. Out of them Venture Energy and technology private limited defaulted in the project execution, due to which their contract was canceled. Later, they were given an extension but the project was never made," said Jaitley

Former Himachal CM's son questions Virbhadra's income

Prem-Kumar-DhumalShimla, Oct 8 : Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's son Tuesday questioned the increase in Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's income from apple orchards between 2008 to 2011 when he was union steel minister.

The revised income-tax returns filed by Virbhadra Singh for 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 show a huge increase in his agricultural income from a few lakhs to crores, Dhumal's youngest son Arun Singh, facing a criminal case in a land purchase case by violating statutory provisions of land laws, said.

"The process for formulating an action plan to implement the National Food Security Ordinance (of 2013) has been issued," Singh said at a meeting called by Congress president Sonia Gandhi with party chief ministers.

No move to appoint Punjab officer as Himachal DGP: Virbhadra Singh

Virbhadra-SinghShimla, July 4 :  Putting an end to speculations that Himachal Pradesh is appointing a Punjab officer as its police chief, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Thursday rubbished all claims that the state is getting in touch with the Punjab government.

"I have yet to take any decision (on the appointment of the new director general of police)," Virbhadra Singh told reporters here.

"Why should I write a letter to Punjab, Haryana or any other state," the chief minister said when questioned about his purported letter to Punjab for sending an officer on deputation to the state.

Ranbaxy donates Rs.15 lakh for Himachal relief

Ranbaxy-LaboratoriesShimla, July 2 : Pharma major Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd Tuesday contributed Rs. 15 lakh towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for rehabilitation and relief works in flood-hit areas of Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur, an official said here Tuesday.

Ranbaxy officials called on Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in New Delhi and presented him a cheque of the company's contribution, a government spokesperson told IANS.

Incessant rains that triggered flash-floods June 16-18 killed 20 people in Kinnaur, displaced hundreds and damaged more than 300 houses. (IANS)

Virbhadra meets PM, seeks Rs.1,000 crore calamity relief

Virbhadra-SinghNew Delhi, June 28 : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and sought a financial relief of Rs. 1,000 crore for relief and restoration work in the rain-ravaged areas of the state.

The chief minister said the loss to private and public property in the unprecedented rains has been estimated at Rs. 2,575 crore.

A total of 24 people have died in weather-related incidents, an official statement said.

Kinnaur was worst-affected district in June 16-18 heavy rains that triggered massive landslides, blocking many roads.

Virbhadra not to celebrate birthday

Virbhadra-SinghShimla, June 22 : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will not celebrate his 79th birthday Sunday in view of the natural calamity and deaths in the state and neighbouring Uttarakhand, a statement said here.

"The chief minister has decided not to celebrate his birthday in this hour of grief and sorrow due to natural calamity which struck Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand," the statement said Saturday.

"The people of the state have sympathies with those affected by this natural calamity and pray for early mitigation of their sufferings," the chief minister said.

Sukh Ram to campaign for Virbhadra's wife

Sukh-RamMandi (Himachal Pradesh), May 30 : Former telecom minister Sukh Ram will campaign for Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's wife Pratibha Singh, the Congress candidate for the June 23 Lok Sabha by-poll from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, the party said Thursday.

Popularly known as Pandit-ji in his bastion Mandi, Sukh Ram had in 2009 general elections refused to campaign for Virbhadra Singh, who was contesting from this parliamentary constituency.

According to a list released by the Congress Thursday regarding the state campaign committee for the Mandi by-election, Sukh Ram is one of the members.

Himachal's annual plan outlay fixed at Rs.4,100 crore

Virbhadra-Singh-M-S-AhluwaliaNew Delhi, April 10 : Himachal Pradesh's 2013-14 Annual Plan outlay was fixed at Rs. 4,100 crore by the Planning Commission Wednesday, Rs. 400 crore more than last year's plan size.

The plan size is 11 percent higher than the Rs. 3,700 crore outlay for 2012-13, an official statement said.

The outlay was finalised at a meeting between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here.

BJP walks out of Himachal assembly on colleges issue

Virbhadra-SinghShimla, March 28 : Himachal Pradesh's opposition BJP Thursday walked out of the state assembly against the refusal of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to reopen eight colleges.

Not satisfied with the reply of the chief minister on the issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, who had moved cut motions for re-notifying the colleges, staged a walkout.

Virbhadra Singh said these colleges were notified during the BJP regime just before the assembly elections without making budgetary provision and allocation of staff and infrastructure.

Subhash Ahluwalia has been appointed principal private secretary to the chief minister, the post he had occupied during Virbhadra Singh's 2003-07 stint. Ahluwalia is also media advisor to the government.

T. C. Janartha, who was Virbhadra Singh's private secretary during his 1993-1998 tenure, has been appointed officer-on-special duty (OSD) in the chief minister's office.

Himachal hopes to clock 6.2 percent growth

Virbhadra-SinghShimla, March 13 : Himachal Pradesh's economy is expected to grow by 6.2 percent -- 1.2 percent higher than the national level -- in the next fiscal, the state's economic survey report said Wednesday.

"The economy of the state is expected to achieve a growth rate of 6.2 per cent in the current financial year which is comparatively better than the national growth of five percent," said the report, which was tabled in the state assembly by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

Four-laning of NH-22 needs Rs.2,730 crore: Virbhadra

Virbhadra-SinghShimla, March 12 : The four-laning of National Highway 22 between Parwanoo and Shimla will cost Rs. 2,730 crore, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here Tuesday.

The construction work to be executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), likely to start in February 2014, would be completed within three years, he said in a written reply in the assembly.

However, he said, no funds have been sanctioned by the central government so far for the project.

While widening the 88-km stretch, Singh said the distance between both the towns would be shortened by 17 km.
