Petroleum dealers to resort to ‘no purchase’ agitation on October 1 and 2

Petroleum dealers to resort to ‘no purchase’ agitation on October 1 and 2Punjab petroleum dealers will resort to a `no purchase' agitation on October 1 and 2, in an attempt to force oil companies to revise their commission.

JP Khanna, president of the Punjab Petroleum Dealers' Association, said that price of petrol increased several times over the past years but they were getting the same commission.

Mr. Khanna demanded that the commission should be based of retail sale price instead of the existing system, in which commission is based on the volume of the oil sold.

Asking oil companies to re-consider and revise commission on petroleum products sales, Mr. Khanna said, "Since 2010, the rate of petrol have been increased by Rs. 22 a litre. But we are getting the same commission, which is based on volume, not on sale price."

He warned that if oil companies would not revise the commission by October 15, then all petrol pumps in the state would operate only for eight hours per day only.

He alleged that oil companies were not giving due share to petrol dealers.

The planned protest is part of a nationwide agitation called by the Confederation of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD), which has long been demanding the implementation of the Apurva Chandra committee's recommendations.
