Police assured Anna won't be removed: Kiran Bedi

Police assured Anna won't be removed: Kiran BediNew Delhi, Aug 25 : Anna Hazare aide Kiran Bedi Wednesday night said she has been assured by Delhi police chief that the fasting social activist won't be removed forcibly till doctors said so in view of his failing health.

"I got an SMS from Delhi Police commissioner that police won't take any action till the doctors declare that Anna needs serious medical attention. So even if they got orders from the ministers, they would not touch Anna," said Bedi.

Bedi was addressing the crowd assembled at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan where Hazare is observing an indefinite fast since Aug 16, demanding a sweeping anti-corruption law through Jan Lokpal bill.

The former police officer also blamed the government of having changed its stance, shattering hopes for an early end to the impasse on the Lokpal bill.

"Today, I felt the government is no more concerned about Anna's fast. Our confidence in the government has now shaken," she said.

Bedi said the government had earlier accepted their demands but they spoke a different language during the third round of talks Wednesday night.

When Team Anna members asked Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee -- the chief negotiator from the government -- what if Hazare refused to break his fast, Bedi said: "He told us that Anna's fast was not his problem, (it was) your problem. Go and solve it."

"We questioned their change in attitude, but got no answers," she added.(IANS)
