Political parties should avoid giving tickets to criminals, says BJP

Political parties should avoid giving tickets to criminals, says BJP New Delhi, Jan. 3 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday termed as extremely unfortunate the alleged involvement of a Congress leader in Assam in a rape case, and said that all political outfits should refrain from giving tickets to persons involved in serious crimes.

BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said legal provisions are the only solution in this regard.

"It is unfortunate. There should be stringent laws for such cases. And all the political outfits should avoid giving tickets to people involved in serious crimes," he added.

National Commission for Women (NCW), Mamta Sharma commenting on this unpleasant incident earlier today said the person accused of such a heinous crime should get full punishment as per the laws, as sparing a VIP would be an injustice to the common man.

"Whether it is Congress BJP, BSP or SP, I would say that the person accused of rape should get full punishment (irrespective of his background). Sparing any leader or a VIP, I believe will be injustice to the common man," she said.

According to reports, angry residents nabbed Bikram Singh Brahma, a Congress leader from Assam''s Chirang District, after he tried to rape the woman. (ANI)
