Conservatives predicted to win big in New Zealand election - poll

Wellington - New Zealand's opposition conservative National Party is headed for a landslide victory over the sitting Labour-led coalition in the general election scheduled for November 8, according to an opinion poll released on Sunday.

The Television New Zealand One News poll showed the Nationals winning 66 seats in the next parliament, enough to rule alone despite a voting system that encourages coalition governments.

Labour would have 43, the Greens six, the Maori Party four, the free market ACT party three and the United Future and Progressive parties one each.

This comes after another member of Brown's government team was fired Friday after pressing for a party leadership election.

Brown's authority has already suffered in recent months after the collapse in electoral support as well as a number of internal party rivalries.

Prime Minister Dahal met the outgoing Prime Minister and the opposition Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala later today. Dahal went to Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj in the afternoon. This was the first time the duo met since Dahal was elected the Prime Minister.

The message coming through its political resolution here today on developments in Jammu and Kashmir, was – deal with separatist elements in the Kashmir Valley and their patrons across the border with a “very heavy hand”.

Mamata blames Buddhadeb for Singur row

Kolkata, Sept 13 : Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday blamed the West Bengal Government for the Singur row as it broke the terms of the agreement with her party. 

Banerjee, while alleging that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhatterjee was taking all the decisions without consulting TMC, said, "West Bengal government doesn''t respect us. It has broken the terms of agreement.”

“We are not ready for any more talks," said Banerjee, and added, “We will announce a final decision on September 19.“ 

Banerjee’s statement came barely hours after Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi called for a "spirit of accommodation" that was evident during the talks he presided over to break the Singur deadlock.
