Praveen Halappanvar to visit India to meet Savita's parents

Praveen Halappanvar to visit India to meet Savita's parentsPraveen Halappanvar, the husband of late Savita Halappanvar, is planning to visit India to meet Savita's parents to explain to them the reason for her death in Ireland.

It is believed that Halappanavar could not get an abortion because of the stringent abortion laws in the country and this led to her death.  Savita died at Galway University Hospital on October 28 after she was admitted on October 21 with severe backpain.

Her husband said that she demanded termination of the pregnancy but the medical staff did not agree to her requests.  The medical staff reportedly told her that the foetal heartbeat was still present and "this is a Catholic country".  Medical reports showed that she contracted septicaemia and died on October 28.

"There are still some questions that need answered.  I haven't got my answers yet.  I owe it to Savita and I owe it to Savita's parents to get all the answers and all the truth," said Mr.  Halappanvar.  He was speaking about the seven-day inquest which concluded at Galway Courthouse and gave a verdict of medical misadventure in her case.

Mr.  Halappanvar is now planning to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
