Private Pak TV channels may give progressive Feb 18 poll results: EC

Pakistan ElectionsLahore, Feb 16: The Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan has said that it would not announce progressive election results on February 18, but private television channels will be allowed to do so.

One channel claimed that the EC Secretary, Kunwar Dilshad had earlier told state-run television that private television channels would not be allowed to announce progressive results.

According to Daily Times, Dilshad denied this change. Adding that the Commission had only said it would not issue progressive results as per its policy since 1984-85.

On arrangements for the February 18 polls, Dilshad had said that 26,000 of over the 64,000 polling stations have been declared sensitive.

He also expressed hope that the government would be able to maintain its writ, especially in the troubled areas.

Rejecting allegations of rigging, Dilshad said the Commission would not allow anyone to manipulate the election results.

The EC would ensure that no party or candidate used foul means and would take all possible measures to ensure free, fair and transparent polls. (ANI)
