Punjab will soon be in position to export power to Pakistan: Sukhbir Badal Punjab will become power surplus soon and thus it will be in a position to export surplus electricity to Pakistan, Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal said.

However Sukhbir Badal, who is on a visit to Pakistan, added that export of surplus power from Punjab to Pakistan would subject to an approval from the Government of India.

During his meeting with eastern Punjab province CM Shahbaz Sharif, Badal junior said, "Punjab government has taken substantial initiatives in thermal power by adding 3920 MW generation capacity."

Badal also offered technical know-how in the power sector to help Eastern Punjab to get rid of the chronic power shortage.

Sharif pointed out that the two countries could avoid extra carriage costs by conducting trading activities through Wagah border. Currently, the two countries adopt the circuitous route of Mumbai-Karachi, which raises the prices of inputs due to extra carriage costs.

Lahore chamber of commerce & industry penned down a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Punjab chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry to fortify trade & commerce ties between the two countries.

The Punjab deputy CM also said there was a great potential in increasing exports of potato and vegetable to Pakistan. He further said that India and Pakistan keep aside their differences and take steps to augment mutual industrial & trade ties.
