Khar, Oct 25: Pakistani security forces reportedly killed 12 Taliban last evening, after they targeted suspected Taliban hideouts in various areas of Bajaur Agency.
Backed by tanks and helicopter gunships, the security forces pounded the Taliban positions in Charmang, Chinar, Kohi and Banda areas in Nawagai tehsil and Zobandar and Anzrai areas in Khar tehsil, reported the Daily Times.
Islamabad, Oct 15: The United Nations has said that around 190,000 people have been displaced so far from the strife-torn Bajaur Agency since fighting began there in mid-August.
People are fleeing their homes here because of shelling from US-led NATO troops and Pakistani military operations targeting the Taliban militants and those providing shelter to them. A large number of innocent people, including women and children, have been killed in such strikes.
Bajaur Agency, Oct 15: At least 14 Taliban were killed last evening when Pakistani security forces targeted their hideouts in various areas of the strife-torn Bajaur Agency.
The security forces used jet aircraft, helicopter gunships and heavy artillery to destroy Taliban hideouts in Rashkai, Tang Khatta, Tangi, Chinar and Kotki areas of the agency. The forces bombed suspected Taliban hideouts twice in Charmang, Chinar and Kotki, the Daily Times quoted the sources as saying.
The fighting in Bajaur is some of the heaviest since the war on terror started in 2001.
Kabul, Sept 30: Around 20,000 Pakistanis have fled their country and taken refuge in Afghanistan due to the ongoing fight between Pakistani security forces and the Taliban in Bajaur Agency, a statement released by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said.
The United Nations’ refugee agency said that nearly 4000 families had fled Bajaur into Afghanistan's Kunar province.
The fighting in Bajaur tribal area had displaced as many as 500,000 people, the Daily Times quoted UN officials as saying.
Peshawar, Sep 12: Pakistani troops killed up to 100 militants in a restive northwestern tribal area near the Afghan border after the rebels ambushed a security patrol, a security official has said.
“We launched strikes against militant hideouts in Bajaur and destroyed several compounds they were using,” the official told reporters.
“According to the latest information from the area, between 80 and 100 militants were killed,” the Daily Times quoted the official, as saying.
