Mercedes-Benz opens second R&D facility

Bengaluru - Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) on Tuesday inaugurated its second dedicated facility at Whitefield here.

Spread across an area of 266,000 sq ft with a capacity of over 2,400 people, it is located close to the head office of MBRDI, the company said in a statement.

"MBRDI plays an important role within our global research and development organisation and this new facility is another milestone in the growth story of Mercedes-Benz R&D in India," said Thomas Merker, Vice-President (Body, Safety, Telematics) Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and acting Chairman, MBRDI.

GSAT-16 launch deferred for second time due to bad weather

Bengaluru - Hit by inclement weather, the launch of India's latest communication satellite GSAT-16 was deferred for the second time after it was rescheduled to be put into space in the early hours tomorrow by Ariane 5 rocket from the space port of Kourou in French Guiana.

After the satellite launch originally scheduled for today was put off, Indian Space Research Organisation had announced that the lift-off would be at 02.09 AM (IST) on Saturday but within hours said it had been postponed again, citing the inclement weather at the launch base.

Bengaluru - The launch of India's latest communication satellite GSAT-16 in the early hours tomorrow by Arianespace rocket from Kourou in French Guiana was deferred due to inclement weather at the launch base, ISRO announced tonight.

GSAT-16, designed to augment the national space capacity in communication services, was scheduled to be launched at 02.08 am on Friday (IST) on board Ariane 5 VA221 rocket.

In the dual satellite mission, along with GSAT-16, DIRECTV-14, which was built by SSL (Space Systems/Loral) for operator DIRECTV to provide direct-to-home television broadcasts across the US, was also scheduled to be launched.

Tejas achieves another milestone -- night flying

Bengaluru, Nov. 9 : India’s Tejas Light Combat Aircraft achieved an important milestone when it took to the skies by night on November 7.

In its maiden flight by night, the Prototype Vehicle-3 aircraft took off at 8:05 p. m. from Bangalore airport and carried out a set of predetermined manoeuvres to demonstrate its night capability.

The aircraft was piloted by Group Captain N Tiwari of the National Flight Test Centre. Wing Commander R K Dash as the test director, along with several Senior Officers of the Tejas Programme were at the telemetry station monitoring the progress of the flight. The flight met all its test objectives.

The night qualification marks an important step towards achieving Initial Operational Capability (IOC).

Chandrayaan-1 enters lunar orbit

Chandrayaan-1 enters lunar orbitBengaluru, Nov. 8 : An official of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday confirmed that the spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 had entered the lunar orbit successfully.

S. Satish, spokesperson of ISRO said that the Chandrayaan-1 orbit would last around 800 seconds in 7,500km x 500km elliptical orbit around the moon.

"The lunar orbit insertion (LOI) will start around 5 p. m. and last around 800 seconds," Satish said.
