The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said the number of employed was slightly higher than the same period of last year, albeit the country's economic growth dipped to the lowest in the January - March period since the third quarter of 2012, reported Xinhua.

Also, as many as 7.27 million workers in rural areas were employed in local enterprises and 6.89 million workers were organized to work in other regions in the first quarter.

China relaunches rail link with EuropeBeijing, April 24 - A freight train Wednesday began its journey from central China's Wuhan city to Poland's Lodz, restarting the Wuhan-Xijiang-Europe rail route after it was suspended for technical reasons.

Its 15-day journey will pass along the Silk Road economic belt through major cities in central and northwest China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus before arriving at the destination, Xinhua reported.

The rail trip is about one month quicker than the maritime alternative, and costs a fifth as much as air freight, according to the Wuhan Transport Committee.

Trade growth between the two countries had accelerated in the first two months of this year to 4 percent, Xinhua quoted Rogozin, who met visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang in the Far East city of Vladivostok, as saying.

China became Russia's largest trading partner last year and Russia became China's ninth largest, he said.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said out of a statistical pool of 70 major Chinese cities, 56 saw month-on-month gains in new home prices last month, down from 57 in February, reported Xinhua.

For existing homes, prices increased in 42 cities in March, also down from 46 in the previous month, the data showed.

A reading below 50 indicates contraction, while above 50 signals expansion.

Infection of a man, 35, from Wuxi City in Jiangsu province was confirmed Friday night, Xinhua quoted provincial health department as saying. He is is in critical condition.

A 72-year-old man from Fuqing City in Fujian province was also confirmed as infected Friday, bringing the total infections in the province this year to 17, of whom five have died.
