Congress playing communal card: Modi

narendra-modiGhaziabad, April 3 : BJP's prime ministerial hopeful Narendra Modi Thursday accused the Congress of "playing the communal card" to win votes in the Lok Sabha election.

"We are secular and we want development," Modi told an election rally in Ghaziabad where the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded former army chief, General V. K. Singh.

Modi said that every time he tried to discuss issues of development, the Congress diverted the discourse to secularism.

General waging psychological campaign: AAP's IlmiGhaziabad, April 3 - AAP leader and candidate Shazia Ilmi, pitted again former Indian Army chief Gen V. K. Singh in the Lok Sabha polls, has accused the BJP of waging a "psychological campaign" against her party.

A former journalist, Ilmi said this was the reason why Gen Singh, Ghaziabad's Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, called the Aam Aadmi Party "anti-national".

This is also why BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi dubbed AAP founder leader Arvind Kejriwal a Pakistani agent, Ilmi told IANS in an interview here.

Voters will reject BJP like in the past: Rahul

Rahul-GandhiGhaziabad, March 29 : Likening the BJP's election campaign to a series of films which keep failing, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Saturday said voters will reject the party in the upcoming general elections like in the past.

Addressing an election rally here, he noted that in 2004, the BJP sought to show the entire country that India was shining but this failed to convince the voters.

"People looked around and consulted their families, asked which India was shining and decided that their India was not shining. On the day of the elections, they pressed the button and burst the bubble," he said.

SP leader Farooqui to join AAP?

Kamal FarooquiGhaziabad, Dec 29 : Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui Sunday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and expressed a desire to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party sources said.

Farooqui, a former Samajwadi Party national secretary, met Kejriwal at his residence here for an hour.

AAP sources quoted Kejriwal as telling Farooqui that he will discuss the matter with his party colleagues and take a decision.

Emerging from the meeting, Farooqui said: "There is a pro-AAP wave in the country. I had a long chat with Kejriwal but he is not well."

Talwars sentenced to life for double murder

TalwarsGhaziabad, Nov 26 : A day after they were held guilty, a CBI court Tuesday sentenced dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar to life imprisonment on charges of killing their daughter and domestic help in 2008.

Lawyers of the distraught couple, who were immediately taken back to the Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad district, said they would appeal in a higher court against the ruling. (IANS)

Court verdict in Aarushi-Hemraj twin murder case today

Aarushi HemrajGhaziabad, Nov 25  : A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court will today pronounce its verdict in the Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj twin murder case.

Special Judge S Lal will deliver the verdict, after a 15-month-long trial of Aarushi's parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, on charges of murder and destruction of evidence. The dentist couple is presently on bail.

The apex court had earlier rejected a plea by Rajesh and Nupur Talwar to summon 14 witnesses, including former CBI official Arun Kumar, to give their depositions in the murder trial of Aarushi and Hemraj.

Akhilesh gives free laptops to Ghaziabad students

Akhilesh-Yadav1Ghaziabad, June 3 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday distributed free laptops to students in Ghaziabad and unveiled new projects amid residents' protests seeking a CBI probe into the recent murder of a seven-member family.

The chief minister distributed the laptops to 50 students as part of his Samajwadi Party election pledge. Other over 8,000 computers would be given by the administration, an official said.

The first laptop recipient was Anjali Singh Bist.

The official said 5,598 laptops would be distributed to Ghaziabad students while 2,476 laptops will be given to students in Gautam Budh Nagar.

Investigation Officer (IO) I. G. L. Kaul appeared before Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge S. Lal and said during the probe no signs were visible to suggest that an outsider entered the Talwars' house, where the murders took place.

RobberyGhaziabad, Jan 11 : Two employees of an apparel store in a Sahibabad mall in Ghaziabad district were robbed of Rs. 18 lakh by a group of robbers who threw chilli powder in their eyes, police said Monday.

According to police, Kuldeep Sharma, an assistant manager with Chunmun Stores inside Pacific Mall, and his colleague Rajeev Sharma were going a motorcycle to deposit the store's cash, amounting to Rs. 18 lakh in Punjab National Bank branch at Kaushambi near the Anand Vihar border with Delhi.

Woman kills husband in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Jan 11 - A woman stabbed her husband to death in Ghaziabad after he came home drunk, police said Monday.

The incident occurred around midnight in Bagu Krishna Nagar locality in the city, adjacent to the national capital.

According to police, 30-year-old Rinki stabbed her husband Mahendra when he reached the house in an inebriated state. Angered by his daily drinking habit, she took a scissor and stabbed Mahendra thrice in his abdomen.

Mahendra, 31, succumbed to his injuries in the district hospital.

"We have arrested the wife and the scissor has been seized," said circle officer R. K. Gautam. (IANS)

Two carpenters found suffocated to death

Ghaziabad, Jan 10 - Two carpenters working at a construction site in Ghaziabad were discovered lying dead in their room, police said, adding it seemed both died of suffocation.

The deaths were discovered when the site manager Deepak Kumar Raghav, not finding them on duty, went to their room in the building Saturday morning. When they did not open the door even after several knocks, he forced open the door and found the carpenters lying in their bed covered with blankets. Thinking that they were sleeping, he pulled off the blankets and found them dead, police said.

Guard killed resisting robbery in Ghaziabad factory

According to police, the armed robbers barged into Vadhera & Co factory, at plot number A-4 in the Loni Road Industrial Area of Sahibabad, early Thursday and stabbed guard Chhidda Pal, 58, to death when he refused to hand over keys of the cupboards and tried to resist the robbery.

Policeman commits suicide in Ghaziabad Ghaziabad, Jan 5 : A policeman Tuesday committed suicide by shooting himself in a police line here, authorities said.

Jitesh Kumar, 38, shot himself with his service revolver in police line under Kavi Nagar police station here. Kumar was in-charge of police armoury.

"Kumar's colleagues rushed to the armoury after hearing the firing and found Kumar lying in the pool of blood. He was rushed to Yashoda Hospital here, where doctors declared him dead," a police officer said.(IANS)

However, date of narco test is not finalised.

The Aarushi murder case, which rocked the country a year and a half ago, returned to the spotlight on Monday, with the CBI seeking permission from the court.

The court heard the CBI''s application, which said its probe team found fresh clues, requiring the Talwars to undergo narco tests.

Company cashier looted of Rs.230,000 at gunpoint

Map-of-Uttar-PradeshGhaziabad, Jan 4 : Two motorcycle-borne men looted the cashier of an edible oil trading firm of Rs. 230,000 at gunpoint in Hapur town of Ghaziabad district Monday, police said.

Sunil, a cashier with Shivam Traders, was taking the cash to a bank in Raghvir Nagar area of the city when the two motorcycle riding men stopped him at gunpoint. They snatched the bag containing the cash, hit Sunil on the head with a pistol butt when he tried to resist, and fled.

Local residents took Sunil to a local nursing home where he was discharged after first aid.
