Security beefed up in Goa following terror threat

Panjim, Sept 23 : The police in Goa have stepped up security around all vital establishments and increased surveillance along the railway stations following revelations by arrested suspected militants in New Delhi that Goa was a likely target.

Police officials said that a red alert has been sounded against the possibility of a terror strike and a strict vigil is being maintained.

Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande, who heads the state''s special cell, told reporters: “We are on our toes and have kept all the arrangements ready.”

Moreover, the Goa police confirmed that they have received inputs from Kerala police about the Northern-bound train laden with explosives.

Goa Committed To The Cause Of Diabetes Awareness

The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated ‘The Clinic on Wheels’ for the Goa Committed To The Cause Of Diabetes Awareness diabetics in the state. These clinics will be equipped with all state of the art facilities to detect diabetes and offer treatment along with educational material to offer to spread awareness about the effects of the disease and how early diagnosis of high sugar levels can prevent complications at a later stage. 

Diabetes Care Program Launched In Goa

In order to bring the health care to the doorstep of the common people, the Goa Diabetes Care Program Launched In Goagovernment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Novo Nordisk Education Foundation, Bangalore on Diabetes Care Programme on Thursday.

At the time of signing the MoU on Diabetes Care Programme, the Health Minister of the state government Vishwajeet Rane was also present.

While lecturing on the occasion, Rane said, “Diabetes is a major health hazard in the country affecting young and old. Goa has a alarming proportion of Diabetes patients.”

EIH to spend Rs 650 crore on Bangalore and Goa properties

Hotel chain operator EIH Ltd would invest around Rs 650 crore in its two properties in Bangalore and Goa, under its expansion plan.

Union Food Processing Industries Ministry Offers 60 Cr To Goa

Union Food Processing Industries ministry has offered Goa financial assistance to the tune of Rs 60 crore for various projects including a mega food park, food testing laboratories, cold chain and food technology courses.     

At a function held in Panaji Union Food Processing Industries Minister Subodh Kant Sahai said, “The centre is ready to give Rs 50 crore financial assistance for the mega food park and Rs 10 crore for cold chain project for marine processing.” He said that the union ministry also plans to set up 30 mega food parks in Goa.
