Modi will contest from Gujarat: BJP leader

Narendra-ModiAhmedabad, March 13 : Narendra Modi will be contesting the Lok Sabha election from at least one seat in his own state, BJP leaders said Thursday.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, however, did not make it clear if the Gujarat chief minister will also fight from a constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

"I can definitely say that Modiji will fight the elections from one seat in Gujarat," state BJP general secretary Vijay Rupani told reporters.

Hindustan Powerprojects aims at 5,000 MW generation

Hindustan-Power-projects-LtdGunthawada (Gujarat), Feb 13 : Hindustan Powerprojects Pvt Ltd (HPPPL), just-renamed Moser Baer Projects, plans to invest around Rs. 32,000 crore over three years to increase its overall generation capacity by over 5,000 MW, of which 1,000 MW will come from solar power. The company's current capacity fron hydro and solar generation is less than 1,000 MW.

Its solar business - Hindustan Cleanenergy - is looking to enhance its portfolio from 350 MW to 1000 MW by fiscal 2016-17 and has already invested Rs. 5,500 crore on this.

US ambassador meets ModiGandhinagar, Feb 13 - US Ambassador Nancy Powell Thursday met Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi in the state capital here.

The meeting between the US envoy and Modi, widely regarded as a strong contender for the prime minister's post, marks a change in stance of the US which had denied the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader a visa in 2005 over the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Powell was presented a bouquet of roses by Modi, after which she and her aides held a meeting with him.

Adani Powers posts lower Q3 loss at Rs.426 crore

Adani-PowerAhmedabad, Jan 27 : Adani Power Ltd (APL) Monday posted a 15.9 percent recovery on its standalone net losses, at Rs. 426 crore for the third quarter ended December. It had registered a net loss of Rs. 507 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

APL's losses have recovered to one of the lowest so far in the current fiscal on the back of an improved plant load factor (PLF) of 75 percent, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

For the nine month period of the current fiscal, Adani Power has posted a standalone net loss of Rs. 2,255 crore against Rs. 1,525 crore in the same period of last fiscal

Speaking after Modi at the inauguration of a museum dedicated to the country's first home minister, Manmohan Singh credited Sardar Patel with making a great contribution in shaping India.

"I wish Sardar Patel had become the first prime minister of India. This will remain our regret," the BJP's prime ministerial candidate said at the inauguration of a museum dedicated to Sardar Patel.

"If Sardar Patel would have been our first prime minister, then the face and fate (tasvir aur takdir) of the country would have been completely different," Modi said.

US delegation meets Modi

The meeting assumes significance as the US has been denying Modi a visa for his alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Only recently, an invitation to speak at the Wharton India Economic Forum in the US was withdrawn when students and faculty of the University of Pennsylvania protested Modi's inclusion in the event.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has maintained that Modi has never sought a visa, in the first place.
