The multi-million pound project will be the first major sport-related development in India.

Depending on the overall size of the stadium, the seating capacity of StadiArena can be "flexed" to cater for an audience of between 2,000 to 20,000.

A group of diamond workers had queued outside the office of ''Surat Diamond Association'' today to get the application forms for special package announced by the Diamond Association, which offered them a waiver in the school fees of their children.

The long wait and subsequent shortage of forms angered the workers and soon erupted into a protest by them outside the office building.
