Indian ElectionsNew Delhi- The leader of India's ruling coalition Sonia Gandhi and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani are among the 1,567 candidates in the fray for the third phase of general elections scheduled to be held Thursday. An estimated 144 million voters are eligible to vote in this phase, where balloting will be held in 107 parliamentary constituencies across nine states and two federally-administered territories.

Govt. rules out corporate rivalry behind Ambani helicopter episodeMumbai, Apr 29 : The Maharashtra Government on Wednesday categorically said that no evidence was found during the investigations into Anil Ambani''s helicopter sabotage case to suggest a "corporate rivalry" behind the incident.

Talking to reporters, state Home Minister Jayant Patil said, "We have not found any evidence that there is a corporate rivalry between two groups and that is why this had happened."

Archaeologists claim discovery of China’s earliest known carving

New Delhi, April 29 : Archaeologists in China have claimed the identification of the country's earliest known carving, which is a deer antler sculpted into the shape of a bird, dating back 12,000 to 15,000 years.

The fossilized grey figurine, which is 2.1 centimeters long, 1.2 centimeters high and 0.6 centimeters thick, was found in Xuchang County in China's central Henan Province in March.

It is made from evenly-heated antler, and vividly carved with amicrolithic cutting tool.

"The carving technique is more exquisite than the western carvings of its time," said Li Zhanyang, head of the archeological team in Xuchang, and a researcher with the Henan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology.
