Indefinite curfew in Kashmir Valley ahead of ‘Lal Chowk Chalo’ marchSrinagar, Aug 24 : Authorities in the Kashmir Valley on Sunday imposed an indefinite curfew following a call given by separatists for a rally at Lal Chowk to protest against the failure of the Centre in finding a resolution to the Kashmir issue. 

A day ahead of the ‘Lal Chowk Chalo’ march, announcements were made on loud speakers this morning about the imposition of the curfew and people were directed to stay indoors.

15 killed as militants clash with security forces in Indian Kashmir

Kashmir tense during memorial for slain separatist leader Srinagar, Kashmir - At least 12 Islamic militants and three government troops were killed in combat near India's de facto border with Pakistan in disputed Kashmir, officials said Saturday.

The clash started on Thursday night when soldiers intercepted a group of armed rebels who had crossed the Line of Control into northern Kupwara district in India-administered Kashmir.

"Twelve militants, a colonel and two soldiers of the Indian army were killed in the gunbattle which went on for more than 36 hours," Lieutenant Colonel AK Mathur said.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN VohraSrinagar, Aug 23: A four-member committee set up by Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra will be holding its first round of talks with the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) here today to discuss the five-point agenda submitted by the government to the Samiti.

The four-member committee side is headed by Tilak Raj Sharma while the government side is headed by the former Chief Secretary, S. S. Bloeria. He is now Adviser to the Governor.
