Lucknow, Feb 12, : Thousands of teachers and employees of non-aided schools across the State who reached here to launch protests demanding higher salaries were baton-charged by the police.

Over 100 teachers gathered outside the Raj Bhawan to take part in the demonstration.

For a long time, the teachers have been waging a war demanding the Government to increase their salaries.

Lucknow, Feb 10 : Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has criticised Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar for being lenient with the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and added that he is trying to help the Congress in the coming by-polls.

After the Samajwadi Party disrupted Rajeshwar''s opening address in the Uttar Pradesh budget session on Tuesday, Yadav asserted that the Governor has assured the Congress high command that the BSP was in for major gains in the coming elections and it would ensure that a Congress Prime Minister assumes office after the Lok Sabha polls."

Lucknow, Feb 9 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, on Monday said that Bharatiya Janat Party''s Ayodhya chants were nothing but an `election gimmick', as the party remembers Lord Rama only when the poll are around.

"The BJP thinks of Ram temple only when polls are around. But, the public knows about its real face. Even saints are ridiculing the party," Mayawati told reporters in Lucknow.

Lucknow, Feb 9 : Former Indian cricket captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev has shared his sportive spirit by playing cricket with blind children here and on the sidelines of the game opines that Indian cricket is all set to reach new heights.

"I hope that the future of Indian medium pacers will be good. I hope that Indian cricket will be touching new heights," said Kapil Dev.

Visually challenged cricketers enjoyed the game with Kapil Dev amidst them on the pitch.

Lucknow, Feb 2, : The Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that he had never given former Bharatiya Janata Party leader a clean chit in the Babri Mosque demolition.

Mulayam Singh recalled that Kalyan Singh had already taken moral responsibility for the demolition when he stepped down as chief minister on December 6, 1992.

He clarified his relations with Kalyan Singh and said, "There is no alliance with Kalyan Singh, its only friendship which have no conditions."

Lucknow, Feb 1: More than three crore children below the age of five will be given polio drops today, at the polio booths set up in 71 districts of Uttar Pradesh under the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive.

According to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, India has recorded 196 polio cases till April 22, 2008.

In comparison, three other countries where polio is still endemic - Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan- have together recorded 123 cases.
