Kuala Lumpur, August 7 : Malaysia’s Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan said on Thursday that Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader P. Uthayakumar does not have the right to claim RM100 million for defamation.

Uthayakumar had filed for a RM100 million defamation suit on January 4 against the government, Musa and Gani, for allegedly linking him with terrorist groups.

He alleged that the statement by Musa, which he claimed defamed him, was made to prevent feelings of hatred towards the government and avoid racial conflict.

Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 7 : A Malaysian woman has claimed that her three-month-old baby was abducted by her Pakistani husband and taken to Dubai.

Salwanis Maaz, 31, said her husband, Nasir Mahmood Qadri Nisar Ahmad, 39, had taken their son, Muhammad Bilal, on July 26.

The New Strait Times quoted Salwanis as saying: "A few days before they disappeared, my husband brought several people to our home. He introduced them as his cousins and received RM 3,000 from them. A few days later, he received another RM 20,000, which he claimed was another gift from his cousins."

The next morning, Nasir told Salwanis that he wanted to go out and took their son with him. That was the last Salwanis saw her son.

Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 7 : Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim , who was charged on Thursday with committing carnal intercourse with a male aide, has been released on a personal bond of RM 20, 0000 with no surety. Sessions Court Judge S M Komathy Suppiah granted the bail.

The bail was set even after Anwar pleaded his innocence to the charge in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court and called it ``a malicious accusation.''''

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Kuala Lumpur - The Philippine government remains confident of reaching a peace agreement with Muslim separatist rebels despite a court ruling which temporarily blocked the inking of the long-awaited pact, the Philippines' Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo said Tuesday.

Romulo was confident that the "temporary setback" would be resolved quickly, adding that both Manila and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) had the political will to continue with the signing of the agreement.

Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysian drug addict set his home ablaze in a fit of rage after his mother refused to give him 2 ringgit (65 cents), reports said Tuesday.

The fire, which was set in the 35-year-old's room, spread and destroyed three of his neighbours' homes in the Monday evening incident which left 20 people homeless, the Malay-language Berita Harian daily said.

The suspect's stepfather, Ibrahim Sulong, said his stepson had hit his 65-year old wife in the forehead when she refused to give him the money.

The woman, who had to receive seven stitches from the wound, then lodged a police report against her son, he said.

Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 1 : A Malaysian High Court judge has accused the counsel of HINDRAF leader P. Uthayakumar of delaying his habeas corpus hearing.

According to the New Strait Times, Judge Suraya Othman told counsel S. Y. Chew that she was the one delaying the matter by giving excuses.

Chew had informed Judge Othman that she could not proceed with the hearing as there were contradictions found between the search lists prepared by the police and the detention centre authorities.

She asked for the court to allow Uthayakumar to file another affidavit.
