Agenda for Prachanda''s India visit next week

Kathmandu, Sept 9 : Nepali Congress has urged the government to set a national agenda to be taken up during Prime Minister Prachanda''s India visit scheduled early next week through comprehensive discussions.

Kantipur quoted Nepali Congress leader Dr. Prakash Saran Mahat as saying that the government should call an all-party meeting to decide the national agenda. The Prime Minister during his bilateral talks with India should take up issues finalized through the all-party consensus.

He also said that there should be detailed homework on revising the Nepal-India Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1950 and other agreements and a common position of all parties should be developed.

Nepal wants Koshi agreement to be updated

Kathmandu, Sep 8 : Nepal''s Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said that Nepal and India should jointly look into the Koshi agreement and update it.

Addressing a programme on Nepal-India relations here on Sunday Mahara said that it is useless to resort to blame-game over the recent flooding in Saptakoshi river.

"Both the countries are bound by the agreement that was signed at one time. But now, there has to be an objective analysis and review of the Koshi agreement. It should be looked into and updated by both the countries for the benefit of both the peoples," he added.

He said the historic, scientific and technical aspects of the agreement should be jointly studied.

Nepal police arrest two '93 Mumbai blasts' accused

Kathmandu, Sep 6: Nepal police have arrested two persons in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts from Kathmandu.

The police nabbed Salim Abdul Gani Gazi alias Asfak Ahmad Shah Asfak and Riaz Khatri alias Riyaz Abubakar Khatri, who is also known as Riaz Ahmad Lone.

The duo was hunted down in the Maharajgunj area of the capital on the basis of a tip-off received by police. Khatri is believed to have been Dawood's driver while Gazi, believed to have close links to Chhota Shakeel, carried a reward of Rs. 200, 000 for his capture.

The police handed them over to the Indian government via the Indian embassy on Friday.

Nepal Maoists form committee for political appointments

Kathmandu, Sept 6: Nepal Maoists form committee for political appointmentsCPN-Maoist has formed a five-member committee under party Chairman and Prime Minister Prachanda to discuss political appointments in the government.

The committee will choose concerned persons for certain political appointments. Other members in the committee are Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Mohan Baidhya, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Post Bahadur Bogati.

During the meeting, leaders urged Prachanda to propose review of all unequal treaties including the 1950 Peace and Friendship Treaty during the latter''s visit to India.
