Facebook named world's top social networking site San Francisco  - Facebook has overtaken MySpace to become the world's most popular social networking site with 132 million unique visitors in June, according to new figures from web tracking firm ComScore.

The study also found that Facebook's visitor growth far outpaced that of MySpace, with Facebook visits up 153 per cent on an annual basis, compared to just 3 per cent growth for MySpace. Other social networks showing strong global growth include Hi5 (100 per cent) Friendster (50 per cent), Orkut (41 per cent) and Bebo (32 per cent).

The 'I Am Rich' programme was one of thousands of applications made available to users of the iPhone 3G, since the new communications device was launched last month.

Apple allows outside developers to create programmes for the device, but they can only be distributed through an online Apple store after the company approves them.

That's up from 1.9 billion dollars, or 31 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter as sales rose to 10.4 billion dollars from 9.4 billion dollars a year ago.

Forest fire near Yosemite threatens 4,000 buildingsSan Francisco  - A forest fire that has blanketed Yosemite National Park in smoke threatens around 4,000 buildings near the California natural attraction, local media reported Tuesday.

Four days after the blaze broke out about 20 kilometres from Yosemite, firefighters had contained about 10 per cent of the place, which has destroyed 40 buildings, including 12 homes.

Nearly 3,000 firefighters have been deployed and were supported by aircraft dropping water and fire retardant.
