Muslims call for peaceful solution to Amarnath land rowSrinagar/Jammu, Aug 21 : Muslim organisations have urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to reach at a peaceful solution on the controversial Amarnath forestland row.

"The issue should be solved by having talks rather than by getting engaged in violent protests. I appeal on behalf of all Muslims in India that whatever measures are necessary to restore peace and stability in the region, should be taken," said Syed Atar Hussain Dehlavi, the president of the Anjuma-E-Minhaz Rasul.

Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service resumes

Srinagar, Aug 21 : The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service between India and Pakistan, which was suspended last week due to violent protests over the Amarnath land transfer, resumed here today.

According to official sources, 61 passengers today left for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Out of the 61, 58 were returning home to Muzaffarabad.

The fortnightly bus service would also ply on August 28 according to schedule, the sources added.

NSA M K Narayanan meets N N Vohra to discuss security situation in J-K

National Security Advisor M K NarayananSrinagar, Aug 20 : National Security Advisor M K Narayanan today met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and other top officials of the state administration to discuss the ongoing situation in Jammu region, in the aftermath of the controversy over the Amarnath land transfer.

He was accompanied by Intelligence Bureau Director P C Halder and other officers from the Union Home Ministry.

The visit comes two days after thousands of protestors marched past the UN office in Srinagar demanding the international body''s intervention to resolve the issue.

Violent protests erupted in Jammu city Tuesday evening as hundreds of Hindus demonstrated against the state government revoking a decision to allot land to the popular Hindu Amarnath pilgrimage shrine.

Security forces fired in the air and lobbed tear-gas shells to disperse angry mobs which assaulted the police and pelted them with stones.
