Court to pronounce sentence in 1998 Coimbatore blasts case

Coimbatore, Sept. 28 : The Special Sessions Court will begin delivering the sentences in the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts case from today.

Of the 166 accused, the court had convicted 158 on various charges, including the founder of the Al-Umma, Syed Ahmed Basha and its General Secretary, Mohammed Ansari. Of this, the court had found 70 of the accused guilty on various grounds, including conspiracy.

The court had acquitted Abdul Nasser Madani, the leader of the Kerala-based People's Democratic Party. The court had also given bail to seven others.

Chennai: Deepak Puri, MD Moser Baer India Ltd, stated that the company is planning to invest Rs 2,000 crore in Tamil Nadu to make photovoltaic films. The project will be licensed in 18 months.

3.5 pc job reservation for Muslims, Christians in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Sept 13: DMK government in Tamil Nadu has announced the plans to provide reservation of 3.5 per cent each to Muslims and Christians candidates in jobs and educational institutes in the state.

An ordinance in this regard will soon be promulgated, and it would come into effect from September 15 this year, which will be DMK founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai's 99th birth anniversary.

Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi made this announcement in a press conference in Chennai today.

Mahamaham Pedicon 2007 To Be Held In Kumbakonam

Kumbakonam: ‘Mahamaham Pedicon 2007’, the 32nd Annual Congress of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Tamil Nadu Chapter, would be held in Kumbakonam from August 10, 2007.

Its organizing chairman, Dr Vidudagiri told that over 600 medical doctors are estimated to be present at the three-day assembly, when almost 50 papers on various topics would be introduced.
