Israeli settlers arrested in Hebron following riots

Israel MapTel Aviv/Hebron - Jewish settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron clashed with Palestinians and Israeli security forces Tuesday, during riots over disputed property, Israeli police have said.

Police said that settlers and Palestinians threw stones at each other, and that two settlers had been arrested.

The dispute centres on an eviction order passed by the Israeli Supreme Court for a building in the city occupied by Jewish settlers since March 2007.

Tel Aviv - Israeli police set up roadblocks in central Israel Tuesday after receiving intelligence information that a suspected suicide bomber was planning to carry out an attack in Tel Aviv. 

Israel turns back Libyan aid ship headed for Gaza

Israel FlagGaza City/Tel Aviv - Israel forced a Libyan ship with humanitarian aid heading for the Gaza Strip to turn around Monday.

A spokesman for the Israel Foreign Ministry told Deutsche Presse- Agentur dpa "the Navy had made radio contact with the ship and ordered it to turn around, which it did."

Since August, three other vessels with humanitarian activists and aid have reached Gaza's shores after the Israel Navy avoided a confrontation and let them through despite initial threats to block their way. Israel at the time said it did not want to grant the organizers, the Free Gaza movement, undue attention by creating a confrontation.

Six bodies of Mumbai attacks victims to be flown to Israel

Israel FlagTel Aviv - An Israel Air Force plane is expected to fly the bodies of six Israelis and Jews killed in the Mumbai terrorist attacks to Tel Aviv later Monday.

Israel Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yigal Palmor said the bodies of six Israelis and Jews killed in Mumbai's Nariman House have been identified so far.

He said Indian authorities believe there are two more bodies of hostages killed in the Jewish centre based in Nariman House, but Israel was uncertain if this is the case.

Ministry: Death toll in Mumbai Jewish centre rises to eight

India, IsraelTel Aviv - The number of people killed in the terrorist assault on a Jewish centre in Mumbai has risen to eight, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said Saturday morning.

All of the victims were Israelis or US Jews, the ministry said.

Earlier reports had said five people had died in the centre, called Nariman House, but more bodies had been discovered in the past few hours.

The ministry confirmed Friday that Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who led the ultra-Orthodox Chabad-Lubavitch movement in the Indian commercial capital, and his wife Rivka were among the dead.

Eight Israeli soldiers injured in mortar attack

Tel Aviv  - Eight Israeli soldiers were injured late Friday in a mortar attack from the Gaza Strip on an army base in southern Israel, ynet online news agency reported.

The report said six mortars were fired on the base in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, two of which hit the base. The other four landed in fields near the base.

The Popular Resistance Committees claimed responsibility, but the radical Hamas movement said its al-Qassam Brigades military wing carried out the attack in retaliation for a clash with Israeli forces in Gaza that injured four of its militants.

The Israeli forces said a patrol had discovered Palestinian militants planting bombs at the border post earlier Friday near Khan Younis.
