Washington, October 29 : An American study has revealed that the first two points that people look at to tell whether a face is familiar to them or not are around the nose.

Cognitive Scientists Janet Hui-wen Hsiao and Garrison Cottrell from the Temporal Dynamics of Learning Center at the University of California, San Diego, examined this by showing volunteers frontal-view images of faces, one at a time, and recording their eye movements.

They used an eye tracker to record the movements of the participants, which helped detect where on the faces shown the volunteers looked.

Washington, Oct 29 : Actor Vince Vaughn has been roped in to star in Universal Pictures’ next venture titled ‘Sunny and 68’.

The film will be directed by Gavin O''Connor of the ‘Frontline’ fame.

Washington, Oct 29 : A new research, which found racial and ethnic disparities in patient health-care experiences, claims that Asians have worse experiences than white patients in US.

The survey involving 49,000 patients showed that Asian and Pacific Islander patients have worst experiences than white patients, within the same practices.

"Our findings suggest that there are statistically significant ethnic disparities in physician-patient communication, access to care, and care coordination, even among comparably insured patients in a variety of health-care markets," said Dr. Hector Rodriguez, lead author and assistant professor of health services at the UW School of Public Health and Community Medicine.

Washington, Oct 29: Women who’re not comfortable revealing their age should stay miles away from University of Illinois-developed computer software that reveals a person’s age just like humans do—by looking at his or her face.

The software, developed at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, could analyse an image of your face to verify your identity or run a commercial according to your interest.

"Age measurement is very difficult. If you use the face to estimate age we can really get the apparent age, or how old a person looks," Discovery News quoted Thomas Huang, the lead developer, as saying.

Washington, Oct 29: Rumours might be making rounds that people on the sets of ‘Ugly Betty’ witnessed a huge fight between America Ferrera and Lindsay Lohan, but the latter’s mother claims her daughter "had fun" doing the show.

Dina Lohan claimed that Lindsay is unaware of the reasons why her six-episode guest stint on the ABC show was reduced to four.

However, she insists that the ‘Mean Girls’ star enjoyed her time shooting for the series.

Washington, Oct 29: Scientists from the U. S., U. K. and Australia have teamed up to explore two of the last uncharted regions of Earth, the Aurora and Wilkes Subglacial Basins, in Antarctica, searching for clues to past and future sea level.

The research could show how Earth’s climate changed in the past and how future climate change will affect global sea level.

Scientists believe the barely observed Aurora Subglacial Basin, which lies in East Antarctica, could represent the weak underbelly of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, the largest remaining body of ice on Earth.
