Renuka blames parents for cases of under-age driving

Renuka ChowdhryNew Delhi, June 17: Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary on Tuesday said that parents of the under–age boys were to blame for their involvement in road accidents.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the facilitation centre of the Women and Child Development Ministry here, she said that she would write to the Road Transport Ministry to take stringent action against the parents of children involved in road mishaps.

Reacting sharply to a recent incident on Gurgaon Expressway, where a car allegedly driven by an underage boy met with a fatal mishap, she said that the Road Transport Ministry should fix responsibilty of such incidents on parents and should amend the law to bring them in its ambit.

Emphasising that children were unaware about the dangers of under-age driving, she asked their parents to take responsibility for the incidents. She further said that in such case, father's license should be taken back for allowing the child to drive at a tender age.

She also proposed that use of mobile phones in schools should not be allowed and the Human Resource and Development Ministry should write to all schools in this regard. (ANI)
