SAIC personnel to take charge at GM India
Just two months after a 50:50 JV was signed between the Indian arm of General Motors and SAIC, the Chinese are expected to join the Indian office from the 1st of April. According to the sources, almost three people will be joining the GM India personnel including a senior management member of SAIC.
Though, the company refused to divulge any specific details, it is confirmed that the senior personnel member will not report GM India's MD Karl Slym but will be reporting to the directors of the JV.
Under the JV, GM India is planning to launch the high-volumes generators LCVs in the Indian market. Analysing the SAIC portfolio, it is understood that the company may launch products in competition to the Maruti Suzuki Omni and Tata Ace in the Indian market.
Moreover, the company is also interested in bringing in SAIC passenger cars in the Indian market.
Interestingly, Slym had earlier confirmed the fact that the company is more interested in setting up an exclusive distribution channel for these products as they will be sold under a new brand name. Moreover, the company is trying to bring the CKD units of the SAIC passenger cars rather than the CBUs.
