Shukov to replace Rozanov as SSTL head on June 1Vsevolod Rozanov, the head of Sistema Shyam Teleservices is set to step down from his top post at Russian telecom giant's Indian unit.

Rozanov has seen heading the company at a time when it has lost spectrum and faced closure in several telecom circles. The outgoing president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL) said that if you can be successful in India, you can be successful anywhere pointing out the difficult market conditions in the country with regulatory controls and stiff competition.

Dmitry Shukov is set to become the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Sistema Shyam Teleservices on 1 June, 2013. "India market is a big challenge for any CEO, our team is young but very professional. Our strategy will be to grow data business," Shukov said.

The company's net profit rose 22 per cent to Rs. 643.9 crore during the fourth quarter from January to March, 2013 compared to Rs. 527.8 crore recorded in the previous year. Its consolidated revenue fell 10 per cent to Rs. 3,520 crore compared to the previous quarter. It also said that its average minutes of usage increased 10 per cent to 295 during the quarter.

The company that offers voice and data services on the CDMA platform had taken a write down of 170 crore due to one-time loss incurred by shutting down operations in 13 circles in India. The company's MTS brand had lost its licences after a Supreme Court order in the previous year. The company was able to buy back the permits in eight circles in November.
