SIAM vouches for voluntary emissionsThe Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has recently said that it is in favour of implementing the uniform emission norms in the Indian market. The industry body made this announcement at its 50th Annual Convention.

While the event took place in the Capital, it saw a slew of auto leaders and ministers participating in the schedule of events. It is to be mentioned here that the event was kicked off by Dr Pawan Goenka, SIAM president and President – Automotive and Farm Equipment, Mahindra and Mahindra and eminent names like Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh was Guest of Honour while Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Vilasrao Deshmukh was Chief Guest at the inaugural session.

On the one end, the environment minister showed a lot of concern on the affect on environment via the growth of the auto industry and on the other end, Goenka reaffirmed the fact that the said that the auto industry was cautious towards the environmental concerns.

It may be noted here that the industry body for the Indian automobile sector, SIAM hosts its annual convention focusing on issues influencing Indian automotive industry.
