Significant Impact of Acupuncture on Brain

Acupuncture-on-BrainAcupuncture stimulates the brain into making the body feel better. According to findings published in Brain Research, during treatment a sensation deqi is obtained which deactivates the areas within the brain that are connected with the processing of pain.

"These results provide objective scientific evidence that acupuncture has specific effects within the brain which hopefully will lead to a better understanding of how acupuncture works", said Dr. Hugh Macpherson, Complementary Medicine Research Group in the University's Department of Health Sciences. The team is currently in the process of research if acupuncture is capable of treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and depression, successfully.

Dr. Aziz Asgh said, "The results are fascinating. Whether such brain deactivations constitute a mechanism which underlies or contributes to the therapeutic effect of acupuncture is an intriguing possibility which requires further research."
