New Delhi, Jan 4 : The entire country was waiting for justice in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case, Speaker Meira Kumar said Monday while calling for "immediate relief" to victims in cases related to atrocities against women.

Kumar described as "unfortunate" the case of the 15-year-old who was molested by former Haryana police chief S. P. S. Rathore in 1990 and committed suicide three years later allegedly due to harassment of her and her family after she filed a police complaint.

"The entire country is waiting for justice," the speaker told reporters in parliament.

"Don't delay justice in such cases," she added, referring to the delayed justice in cases related to atrocities against women.

Rathore was Dec 21, 2009, sentenced to six-month jail and Rs. 1,000 fine, evoking widespread protests over what people called light punishment.

He has now been booked by Panchkula police in two fresh cases, including the non-bailable charge of attempt to murder, after Ruchika's family filed fresh complaints.(IANS)
