Toronto, July 29 : World No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia headlined the top seeded players who advanced to the quarter-finals on the fourth day of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament at the Aviva Centre here.

Djokovic defeated 37-year-old Czech opponent Radek Stepanek in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) on Thursday to reach the last eight stage of the tournament in nine of the last 10 times since making his tournament debut in 2007, reports Xinhua.

Toronto, July 29 :Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis produced a sublime performance as they marched into the quarter-finals of the women's doubles event at Rogers Cup in Toronto on Friday.

The Indo-Swiss pair thrashed the Briton-American pair of Naomi Broady and Shelby Rogers 6-1, 6-1 in the one-sided third round contest that lasted just 43 minutes.

Mirza and Hingis will next face the American duo of Christina Mchale and Asia Muhammad in the last eight enocunter.

Toronto, July 28 : World No.1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia and No.4 seed Milos Raonic of Canada were among the notable winners in the third day of Rogers Cup Main Draw tournament at Aviva Centre in Toronto on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Djokovic defeated Gilles Muller of Luxemburg in straight sets to advance to the third round of the tournament.

"I'm quite pleased with the way I held my serves and was focused," said Djokovic following the match. "Overall performance was very pleasing considering it was the first hard court match for a long time."
