Tata Power’s initiative saved 8 lakh power units in DelhiA Tata Power's movement headed by school children aimed at saving eliminating wastages of electricity and spreading awareness about energy and resource conservation called, `Club Enerji' has been highly successful.

The campaign is claimed to have touched upon around 1,26,675 citizens and helped save 7,93,585 units of energy in the national capital, Delhi. The initiative included activities include rallies, street plays and public addresses aimed at spreading awareness during festivals such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratra, etc.

"The units saved are equivalent to saving around 794 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which is more than enough to light up 372 houses," the company said in a release.

The company also said that the initiative is currently active in 11 cities across the country including Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jamshedpur, Lonavla, Belgaum, Ranchi, Haldia, Bangalore, Kolkata and Maithon. Tata Power is the power business of the country's largest business conglomerate that spreads from automobiles to premium teas.

Meanwhile, the company has now started focusing on clean renewable energy and is also planning an initial public offering of its clean-energy unit next financial year. Rahul Shah, chief of business development and renewables pointed out that the company is aiming to increase wind and solar power capacity by five times in the year till March 31.
