Nainital, Apr 20 : Authorities in Nainital have decided to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at several crowded places as precautionary measure and to prevent untoward incidents.

About five CCTV cameras have been installed across the hill resort for keeping a watch on the everyday incidents and also to solve problems like traffic jams and pick-pocketing.

Nainital, Apr 18 : Nainital-based Regional Oak Tasar Research Centre has created a world record in the field of silkworm egg laying.

The scientists and other staff members of the research centre are very pleased by the way the project has shaped up.

The average eggs per moth at the research centre are in the range of 240 to 260 as compared to China's 160 to 200 eggs.

Nainital, Mar. 22 : Farmers in Uttarakhand are reaping it rich by cultivating vegetables, fruits and flowers by using hi-tech methods like greenhouse farming.

Government's Horticulture Technology Mission has initiated several benefiting schemes for the farmers in Padampuri region near Nainital.

The schemes include providing good quality seeds, fertilisers and insecticides at subsidised rates to the farmers. Technical and financial aids are also given to set up poly greenhouses to cultivate various fruits and flowers.

Nainital, Mar. 8 : Benefiting from Central Government's poverty eradication scheme, many women belonging to lower income group have become self reliant in Uttarakhand.

The Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna (SGSY) provides self-employment through small industries. Under this scheme, assistance is given to women living below the poverty line to become self-employment.

At present, there are around 216 self-help groups in Haldwani Block in Nainital. 156 of them are rated as first grade functional, and getting certain extra facilities. Some of the women members have also been nominated as Gram Pradhans (village heads).
