Strong winds and powerful radiation detected in Carina Nebula

Carina NebulaMunich, Feb 13 : The latest image by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) has detected strong winds and powerful radiation coming from an armada of massive stars in the Carina Nebula.

The large and beautiful image displays the full variety of this impressive skyscape, spattered with clusters of young stars, large nebulae of dust and gas, dust pillars, globules, and adorned by one of the Universe's most impressive binary stars.

It was produced by combining exposures through six different filters from the Wide Field Imager (WFI), attached to the 2.2 m ESO/MPG telescope at ESO''s La Silla Observatory, in Chile.

Patni Computer posts 9 pc declines in net for FY'08

PatniPatni Computer Systems announced financial results, reporting 9 per cent decline in net profit, for the period ended December 31, 2008.

Patni's net stood at Rs 483.01 crore in the reporting period, due to decline in demand in Information Technology segment under the impact of global slowdown, as compared to Rs 483.63 crore in the same period last year.

Patni Computer Chairman and CEO, Mr. Narendra K Patni said, "The effect of the global meltdown has been more than expected for everyone and this is impacting our business in the short run."

Arjun Singh misses IIT Bhubaneswar laying ceremony

Arjun Singh to launch National Mission on Education todayBhubaneswar, Feb 12, : Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh on Thursday missed the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar in Orissa's Khorda District.

Singh could not come and the ceremony was held in his absence at Kansapada.

IIT, Bhubaneswar is among the eight new IITs that are to established in the country by the Human Resource Development Ministry.

Details released on 65-million-dollar Facebook payoff Los Angeles  - A law firm has released details of what was supposed to be a confidential 65-million-dollar payoff by Facebook to plaintiffs who claimed the social networking site was based on their ideas.

The payment was made by Facebook last year to smaller rival ConnectU, which had accused Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, a fellow Harvard University graduate, of stealing their ideas to create his site. The ConnectU founders claimed to have hired Zuckerberg while all were students at Harvard University to create a college dating site.
