Tension at Suzuki plant in Gurgaon

Suzuki-Motors-plantGurgaon, April 4 : Tension prevailed at Suzuki Motors plant here over the issue of revoking the suspension of three employees, including two senior union leaders, a leader said Thursday. The union is now threatening strike.

Suzuki Motorcycles India Ltd (SMIL) management suspended three workers -- including the union's president Anil Kumar, general secretary Avinash Kumar and Pradeep Kumar -- on disciplinary grounds on March 19.

Many workers have alleged that the company management harasses them over one or the other issue.

"The plant was shut from March 24 to 31 as the company management had declared a holiday. After reopening, union leaders officially approached the management today (Thursday) demanding termination of their suspension orders," the union's president Anil Kumar told IANS.

"The management has refused to take us back on work. The labour department has not intervened yet. If the issue is not resolved in a day or two, the workers would go on strike next week," Kumar said.

Suzuki has its plant at Kherki Daula on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and on an average manufactures 1,200 to 1,500 motorcycles and scooters everyday. Around 1,150 employees, including casual workers, work in this plant.(IANS)
