Tharoor back at centre of controversy over CWG payment

Shashi TharoorShashi Tharoor was elected as the Minister of State for External Affairs in May 2009 and in the same year he had won the elections from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala.

Tharoor has been caught in another controversy where the Comptroller and Auditor General found that he had been hired by the CWG OC, as a consultant between September 2008 and January 2009.

He has taken $30,000 as a consultancy fee from the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and now he is claiming that the payment was much less than what he gets from delivering a single speech.

CWG is already under the alleged scam and now CAG is looking into the matter and looking into the dealings of CWG organizing committee. It has been found that Tharoor has attended the CWG OC’s meetings for 12 days, 4 days each in 3 months including September 2008, October 2008 and January 2009.

Tharoor has received his payment at his account in HSBC Dubai in 2009 and CAG has not found anything illegal in the payment.
