Toyota marks its highest sales in March 2010
Fascinated by the success of the new Fortuner, Toyota has been able to sell the maximum units in the financial year 2009-10 in the Indian market. Notably, the company sold a mind-boggling 6905 units in the month of March 2010 as against 3,634 units in the same period last year.
The company registered an increase of 90%, hence making it the highest monthly sales for the year. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors explained the fact that the company is now forced to hike the prices of its products because of the Euro-IV norms and the hike in the local road tax and local sales tax.
Moreover, Singh also attributed the rise in the sales as a major factor which was anticipated by the consumers well in advance.
The recently launched Prius has been able to sell 24 units in the month of March but the main boost came from Fortuner which sold a whopping 1095 units in the month of March. Working in a JV agreement with Kirloskar Group, Toyota holds a major 89% stake in its Indian arm.
