Two day CPM politburo begins in New Delhi

Two day CPM politburo begins in New DelhiNew Delhi, Dec 26 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist), politburo meeting began here on Saturday to take stock of the political situation in the country over the past three months.

CPM would also discuss the possibility of a change in the party''s top leadership during the two-day meeting.

Interacting with the media politburo member M. K. Pandhe said : "That matter will be discussed in today''s party meeting and after discussion, we will place it before the central committee and then the central committee will finalise and only after that you (the media) will come to know about it.

Commenting on likely reshuffle of top leadership Pandhe said : “It is the decision of the party because the party is corrected from the top."

Several leaders have been demanding a change in the top leadership, ever since the party lost key seats in provincial by-elections held in two of their heartland states recently.

On Wednesday, senior party leader and the West Bengal Land and Land Revenue Minister Abdur Rezzak Molla, openly asked for an immediate change in the party''s leadership.

In this year''s April/May parliamentary polls, the communists won just 24 parliamentary seats, down from 60 previously.

West Bengal, which has been ruled by the communists since 1977, is going to the polls in 2011 to elect a new 294-member assembly and could well lose the elections, experts say. (ANI)
