Authorities have said that a California man who had his hand severed when he fell onto the tracks of a Metrolink train two weeks ago was hit by a train again Tuesday.

The Orange County Register reported on Wednesday that when authorities arrived at the Irvine Transportation Center Tuesday morning, the 57-year-old Costa Mesa man, whose name has not been released, said he had fallen from the passenger platform and had been run over by the train.

Paramedics were called and treated injuries to the man's left arm and right hand.

The Register said that according to him, his left hand had been severed two weeks earlier, Feb. 8, at the Laguna Niguel station when he allegedly fell from the platform onto the tracks and was hit and dragged 87 feet by a northbound Metrolink train.

Adding the man did not mention anything about suicide, Lt. Andy Ferguson of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday's incident was being investigated as an accident. But Lt. John Hare of the Irvine Police Department said he has requested a mental-health examination of the man, the Register reported. (With Input from Agencies)
