UK new car production up 63% in February - SMMT
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders released its data for the month of February. According to the statistics of SMMT, new car production grew at the rate of 63% in February. Commercial vehicle and engine manufacturing also rose in the month of February.
The growth in car productions reflects that manufacturers are regaining their confidence after the global economic slowdown.
SMMT data showed that in February around 37500 more cars were produced compared to same month last year. This is reported the fourth month in a row when the car production in UK rises.
SMMT said that the production of commercial vehicles grew by 74% and was reported of 10226 vehicles in February. Engine Production also reported a growth in the month of February. Engine Production grew by 59% in February and was recorded to 198807.
SMMT also suggested that the manufacturers and government should work together to ensure the continuity of investment in new products and technology. SMMT said that the agency is expecting around 1.8 million car sales in
2010, decreasing by 7% than total car sales in 2009.
However, market analysts are expecting a tough year ahead in 2010 despite of the growth reported in manufacturing as well as in retail market.
