UK retail sales grows in April – says CBI

Retail-SaleA Distributive Trades Survey conducted by the CBI revealed today that the retail sales in UK were reported up in the month of April. This was reported the third consecutive monthly growth in retail sales figures.

However, the rate of the growth in UK retail industry in the month of April was reported lower than the expectations of economists. The survey also showed that the retailers expect that the retail sales volumes will grow at a faster rate next month.

According to the Distributive Trades Survey of CBI, 43% of the retailer said that sales volumes in the month of April were reported up comparing to the sales volumes in the same month last year.

On the other hand 30% retailers said that they reported lower sales volumes in April comparing to the year ago period. This resulted in a net balance of +13%, same as reported in the month of March. The survey also revealed that a balance of 17% of retailers expected that the sales volumes would grow on yearly basis next month.

The CBI said that the grocers and shoe shops did reasonably well in the month of April. Andy Clarke, chairman of the CBI distributive trades panel also expects an improvement in the sales volumes in early May.
