Uniform control over television channels is an impossibility

Ambika-Soni001Government of India made it clear that it not only is impossible but also difficult to maintain the consistency over uniform control or regulation on television channels.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni says, "The UPA government does not believe in enforcing any uniform control or regulation on 500-plus television channels, as it is not possible also." It was discussed during a meeting in the capital that focused on several other concerns as well. Issues relating to broadcasters like tariff capping, 3G auction, mobile TV etc were the prime highlights of the meetings. The minister focused on the technological advancements which will shortly be introduced in the entertainment business.

It was further stated that government has decided to renew the Broadcasting Audience Research Council (BARC) for a wider audience research. This decision was taken into consideration with regard to the choice of urban and rural TV viewers. With these recent amendments the Minster also sighted the surge in the general entertainment channels which is a commendable situation with respect to the nation's entertainment industry.
