Uninor to continue service in MumbaiTelecom service provider, Uninor has said that it will continue operations in the Mumbai circle after the Supreme Court of India announced the extension of licenses of the companies whose licenses were to be scrapped on corruption charges.

Uninor has indicated that it has decided to bid for the upcoming auction of spectrum in the Mumbai circle. The company said in a statement that as the Telenor Group has decided to bid for the spectrum and the spex court has allowed an extension of licenses for the companies, the services in Mumbai will continue under the brand.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the validity of the telecom licenses will be extended to February 4. The court had earlier set a deadline of January 18 for the companies to carry out their 2G operations. The court has also directed the central government determine the price to be charged from the companies for continuing services after the licenses were cancelled in the previous year.

Telenor and Unitech jointly operate the Uninor brand in India through a joint venture. The joint venture between the two is one of the firms that will see its license being cancelled. A total of 22 telecom permits were among the licenses cancelled by the apex court following a corruption scandal.

The two companies have decided to end the venture after the Supreme Court of India announced its decision to cancel 122 telecom licenses in the country. The two companies were suing each other in the courts and Company Law Board in India. However, the latest move to resolve all outstanding legal issues will allow both the companies to turn over a page over the issues and boost confidence.
