Union Food Processing Industries Ministry Offers 60 Cr To Goa

Union Food Processing Industries ministry has offered Goa financial assistance to the tune of Rs 60 crore for various projects including a mega food park, food testing laboratories, cold chain and food technology courses.     

At a function held in Panaji Union Food Processing Industries Minister Subodh Kant Sahai said, “The centre is ready to give Rs 50 crore financial assistance for the mega food park and Rs 10 crore for cold chain project for marine processing.” He said that the union ministry also plans to set up 30 mega food parks in Goa.

Sahai said that his ministry has asked the Goa administration to identify places for two food promotion training centres which will be given an assistance of Rs 15 lakh each. Apart from this the union government has also shown interest to popularize the concept of organic farming in the state.  

Speaking on the occasion the chief minister of Goa, Digambar Kamat, said that the food processing industry has tremendous scope in Goa. Kamat stressed upon the need to have proper synergy between horticulture and agriculture and other related sectors in the state.

He said that his government has initiated steps to identify the units of food processing in the state. The chief minister launched the food safety and quality year 2008-09.
