Melania Trump, Michelle Obama tete-a-tete over tea at White House

Washington D.C.[United States], Nov.11 : While President Barack Obama and President-Elect Donald Trump were having a crucial meeting in the Oval Office with the eyes of the world on them, few doors down another change of guard was underway between First Lady Michelle Obama and Melania Trump.

Michelle hosted the soon-to-be first lady for tea and a tour of the White House, Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in the White House briefing.

A photo released by the White House showed the two sitting next to each other and chatting amicably in gold chairs in the Yellow Oval Room, located in the residence of the White House, reports CNN.

Earnest said that during the visit to Trump's future home, the two women discussed several issues, especially raising children in the White House.

Obamas dance to 'Thriller' at White House Halloween

Washington, Nov 1 : President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama danced to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at their last White House Halloween trick-or-treat event.

"You guys all look scary, or cool, or whatever you're trying to be," Obama told the assembled trick-or-treaters on Monday night.

The Obamas decorated the South Lawn of the White House and welcomed more than 4,000 people for trick-or-treating, mostly from 15 Washington-area elementary schools and military families, USA Today reported.

Treats came in the form of Hershey Kisses, Halloween cookies, Miamp;Ms, Fruit Bars, Kettle Corn, Bo and Sunny baseball cards and other assorted candies. Tricks were forbidden by the Secret Service.

Michelle Obama goes off on Donald Trump

Washington, Sep 29 : US First Lady Michelle Obama tore into Donald Trump on Wednesday, telling Hillary Clinton supporters, "We need an adult in the White House."

"When making life-or-death, war-or-peace decisions, a President can't just pop off or lash out irrationally," she said on behalf of the Democratic presidential candidate at La Salle University in Philadelphia. "We need an adult in the White House. I guarantee you," CNN quoted her as saying.

Obama criticised Trump over his spreading of the birther conspiracy theory, continuing a rebuke she first made earlier in September while stumping for Clinton in Virginia.

Washington, Sep 17 : US First Lady Michelle Obama took sharp aim on Friday at those who questioned her husband's eligibility for office, arguing a potential commander in chief should set a better example for the country's children.

"There were those who questioned and continue to question for the past eight years up through this very day whether my husband was even born in this country," Michelle was quoted by CNN in Fairfax, Virginia, during her first solo campaign appearance for Hillary Clinton.

"Well, during his time in office, I think Barack has answered those questions with the example he set by going high when they go low."

Philadelphia, July 26 : US First Lady Michelle Obama on Monday addressed the opening night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with a message of hope and unity for the party while endorsing presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton, saying she "trusts Hillary to lead the country".

"Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in her life," Michelle Obama said at the Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania state's largest city.

"I want someone with proven strength ... someone who understands that the issues a president faces are not black and white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters," ABC News quoted the First Lady as saying.

Melania Trump plagiarises Michelle Obama's in RNC speech

Washington, July 19 : Melania Trump has appeared to have lifted a chunk of her speech during the opening night of the Republican National Convention from First Lady Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic convention, NBC News reported on Tuesday.

However, it remained unclear exactly what was behind the close similarities between the two speeches, but Melania, wife of Republican Party's presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, said on NBC's Today Show that she wrote the speech largely on her own.

"I read once over it, and that's all. Because I wrote itÂ…with as little help as possible," she told host Matt Lauer, when asked if she had practiced the speech.

Los Angeles, May 14 : US First Lady Michelle Obama impressed fashion lovers with a blush-coloured gown designed by Indian-American fashion designer Naeem Khan at the Nordic State Dinner hosted by President Barack Obama on Friday night.

She completed the look with her hair in an updo and chandelier earrings, reports eonline.com.

While greeting guests in the White House's North Portico, the president told reporters that his wife "looks great". She playfully replied: "He stepped on my dress".

Actress Demi Lovato served as the evening's performer while several famous faces enjoyed the dinner. They included Aziz Ansari, Miranda Kerr, Tracee Ellis Ross, Al Roker, Connie Britton, David Letterman and Will Ferrell.

Washington, April 14 : US First Lady Michelle Obama continues to "resent" Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton due to the "bad blood left over from the bruising" 2008 campaign, a new book has alleged.

In "First Women: The Grace and Power of America's Modern First Ladies", best-selling author Kate Andersen Brower delves into the intricate relationships between the nation's first ladies, New York Daily News reported on Wednesday.

"The 2008 presidential campaign left deep and lasting scars on both the Hillary and Obama camps, and they are still shockingly fresh," Brower wrote, citing countless interviews with former aides to both women and their husbands.

"I don't think that Michelle thought much of the Clintons," a former Obama adviser said in one such sit-down with Brower.

Washington: Criticising the "disturbing and hateful" poll rhetoric, First Lady Michelle Obama has asserted that America is a "nation of immigrants" and diversity will always be its greatest strength.

"We think America is strongest when we recognize our many traditions, when we celebrate our diversity, and when we lift each other up," Michelle said during Nowruz celebrations at the White House yesterday.

"In times like these, when we think all-- that's more important than ever before, right now and today with what's going on."

"Right now, when we're hearing so much disturbing and hateful rhetoric, it is so important to remember that our diversity has been - and will always be - our greatest source of strength and pride here in the United States," she said.

US First Lady wears 'Kashmiri gown' for Cuba dinner

New York, March 23 : US First Lady Michelle Obama chose a floral gown made of Kashmiri fabric and embroidery by Indian-American designer Naeem Khan for dinner on the concluding day of the Obamas' visit to Cuba on Tuesday.

"The dress Michelle Obama selected for the Cuban dinner was in a Kashmiri fabric," the New York Times reported.

"It was embroidered with an Indian floral motif, and was similar to one in the same fabric from the designer's pre-fall collection," it added.

The embroidery on the gown was Kashmir's traditional "Ari work".

The dinner's dress code was "casual cocktail".

Celebrated designer Khan told the media "after what America has done for me, coming from India, I need to give back to this country".

US announces USD 70 mn aid to Pak for girls education

Washington: The United Stated today announced USD 70 million aid to Pakistan to educate adolescent girls in the country.

"Building on Pakistan's commitment to double education spending, the US will be investing USD 70 million to educate adolescent girls in Pakistan," US First Lady Michelle Obama said at a White House event she hosted for Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's wife, Kalsoom Nawaz.

During the event 'Joint US-Pakistan Let Girls Learn', Michelle said with this funding, the United States will build more than a dozen new schools and rehabilitate hundreds of others.
