London - Right back Luke Young announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday after turning down a call-up to England's squad for the friendly against Brazil.

With Glen Johnson ruled out of Saturday's game in Doha by injury, Young was invited by manager Fabio Capello.

But the 30-year-old rejected the call and confirmed he would focus on playing for his club side, Aston Villa.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton defender won seven caps for England with his last appearance coming against Argentina in 2005.

Manchester United's Wes Brown is left as the only recognised right-back in the squad. (dpa)
