Watson replaces Hughes in third test

Watson replaces Hughes in third testThe Australian team selectors have axed opener Phillip Hughes from the playing elevens for the Edgbaston Test, which is going to start from today. Hughes will be replaced by all-rounder Shane Watson.

Hughes was unable to perform to his potential in previous two test matches. He scored 36, 4 and 17 in the two test matches at Sophia Gardens and Lord's while he managed to score only 10 and 68 in the practice match against Northamptonshire.

Although, the selectors have not revealed whether Watson will open the inning or batting order will be reshuffled to fit Watson in the squad. Watson smashed 84 and 50 runs in the practice match against Northamptonshire to make his way in the Australian team.

Hughes was included in the Australian squad after his heroic debut in the test series against South Africa. Hughes scored 415 runs in the test series with an impressive average of 69.16.

But in the first two test matches, Hughes struggled against short pitched deliveries. England bowlers stuck with this tactics and Hughes was unable neglect these deliveries, which led to his failure in both test matches.
