Wayne State University fraternity may lose charter amidst allegations of 'hazing' beating

Wayne State University fraternity may lose charter amidst allegations of 'hazing' beatingAuthorities have said that a Wayne State University fraternity in Detroit may lose its charter amidst allegations a pre-med student was hazed so savagely he almost died.

The Detroit News said on Friday that Eric Walker, 22, alleges as part of his initiation into the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity it was mandatory for him to go to a house on Grand Street in west Detroit for 32 consecutive days, where he says he was beaten for several hours at a time.

Walker of Ann Arbor said, "They would hit me all over." He further said, "They would have me recite information I'd learned about history or whatever, and see how I responded under pressure by hitting me with thick paddles and slamming my body with their hands."

The News also reported that after Walker went home at the end of one allegedly particularly savage beating March 1, he noticed his urine was red. A friend drove him to the hospital where he was treated for kidney failure and other injuries.

Tina Walker, his mother, said, "The doctors told me he might not recover. He was dying."

He is close to wrapping up his investigation and expects to forward information to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office as early as next week, Wayne State Police Chief Anthony Holt said.

Richard Lee Snow, executive director of the Philadelphia-based fraternity, said, "We do not condone hazing." (With Inputs from Agencies)
